I grew up watching Gilmore Girls. For me, there was nothing better than sitting down with some junk food and coffee and watching as Lorelai and Rory danced through life with their wit and coffee-fueled pop-culture diatribes. I always loved the small-town charm of Stars Hollow and wished that my local Starbucks baristas would magically turn into Luke.
Finally after years of searching I happened to find Luke’s-or rather, a modern day Nashville version of Luke’s–Revelator Coffee.
Revelator Coffee is located in Hillsboro Village, my favorite Nashville neighborhood. Walking in I suddenly feel calmer, happier. Unlike Luke’s, Revelator doesn’t have a ban on cell phones and does, in fact, have wi-fi. People sit at tables working away on their laptops, but will look up and chat with you, in the way only Nashvillians seems to do. I am greeted by Chelsea, who always has a smile on her face. In fact, she even looks a bit like Rory Gilmore…
Revelator specializes in pour over coffee, and you can see the mugs and Chemex (what is the plural of that???) lining the back wall. The coolest looking espresso machine I have ever seen is steaming away as Abraham is making my latte. To say it is a work of art would not be an overstatement. I order the avocado toast as well, which comes out looking almost too beautiful to eat (but let’s be real-I scarfed it down so fast I didn’t even get to take a picture) Thankfully I was able to find a picture on their Facebook page. Trust me, order the avocado toast.
If you’re not feeling toast-y, Revelator offers a variety of other yummy pastries, as well as local chocolates for sale.
Revelator is a truly Southern place, emanating warmth and hospitality with a simple, yet delicious menu. It is my version of Luke’s because they truly do it their own way and provide a place for people to come, have a cup (or 5), and truly feel at home.
Visit Revelator Coffee at 1817 21st Ave. South in Nashville. They are open from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm, 7 days a week. Connect with them on Instagram @revelatornash.
